This will be Bellyflop #2 with what we hope will be a successful landing this time around. The dizzying speed of SN9's preparations for its test flight continued this week, as did the amazing build progress with various sections of several Starship versions spotted. It’s also almost time for the first Cargo Dragon version 2 (CRS-21) to come home after the fully autonomous capsule docked with the International Space Station on December 7 last year. We had the first Falcon 9 launch of 2021 with the Turksat 5A mission, and we also take a look back at the Mars Spirit and Opportunity Rovers that landed on the red planet seventeen years ago. An amazing mission to look back on as we await the arrival of Perseverance in just a few weeks now.

Mr. Musk's real mission is to remain rich as fuck by launching thousands of satellites into orbit for global satellite internet. The whole "Mars Base" thing is just a PR stunt. Hope sells! Especially in these times. Even if we reach Mars, only death awaits us there.

Outta da box.... .......Post SN (8,9) RUD Well.... I would think that a small, drogue like, parachute popped out of nose cone a bit higher up in altitude during landing sequence might help put Starship pointy end up long enough for parachute drag to allow liquid fuel to settle into bottom of main/header tanks for engine start. Jettison chute just after engine startup. KISS principle.... Eliminates need for engine start while vehicle horizontal, less attitude thruster action and might even eliminate need for header tanks and associated plumbing in future versions (or at least allow them to work better). Elerons manipulated to aid chute in righting vehicle. Sufficient chute drag would help get fuel headed right direction as soon as Starship goes near vertical under the chute. As soon as engines start fuel is held in bottom of tanks and chute can be discarded. Engines being started with Starship in a more vertical position would also require less need for last second drastic and rapid slewing of engines. Might use a fraction less fuel as well. Stay well...

Something I'm not buying with this whole Starship program. Something's not right. If it's so easy like snapping your finger to build a rocket then all others must be utter complete failures with their elaborate research and production schemes. The whole thing looks like a backyard operation of a bunch of rocket crazy teenagers. Compare for example to the video "o0fG_lnVhHw" (LVlocal) of United Launch Alliance or Boeing star liner manufacturing.

Because of the materials, SN8 is built of, it's remnants are recyclable. Therefore the nose cone will ne disassembled, melted down, and repurposed.

Musk and future generations will not have a planet to live and work from unless a lot more is done to fix our Mother Earth. Those trillions of dollars spent by pioneers of space exploration need to focus on innovative ways to stop climate change and clean up the Earth. Rather than go to Mars, get a coalition of billionaires to finally solve the Fusion problem. Money is needed for research and design of a Fusion reactor, which will change everything. Also pushing politically to change our and other countries governments to stop using fossil fuels. polluting the oceans with plastic and halt the destruction of the Rain Forests, which is the most critical of all because the less trees and plants means less oxygen which plant life expel and more carbon dioxide which plant life absorbs.
CheesyBread Pirms Mēneša
I hope SN9 manages to touch down successfully. And holy shit they just keep pumping out starships so fast! Given the size of Starship and the timing, I could see modified Starship(s) being a perfect replacement for the ISS, which is showing its age.

Around 10 years ago when NASA and US Gov't was cancelling the Ares Rockets and going over to what is now the Space Launch System, everyone was saying NASA should scrap the system. It is expensive. My counter argument was NASA already has all this proven technology that is known to work. It won't take much to reconfigure the Space Shuttle Launch components into a new system that can send very large payloads up to space. I said NASA probably be launching this SLS while any of the private companies will be building rockets that will be blowing up, crashing, or malfunctioning because they may cut corners to leap frog each other, NASA, or other countries. Here we are with the SpaceX Starship with many issues to work out before it is capable of going into Space. I say it be years before this will be ready to do what it is intended. On the positive side, SpaceX Falcon rocket and Dragon Capsule have been proven, and it took them almost 15 years to go this to where it is today.

Why don't we make good use of Phobos and Diemos on our journey to Mars?
R S Pirms Mēneša
Elon Musk idea of going to Mars is to perpetuate our species. The satellites can be mined for rare material have water ice.. most likely, are a handy stepping stone to the Martian surface. What has Phobos and Deimos got that our own moon hasn't? Why go to Bennu. An asteroid or small moon is worth trillions if you have the tech to take advantage of it
Alvian Choiri Apriliansyah
So what's our purpose really of going to Mars in the first place. Exploring Mars or those satellites?

The next one will likely also fail in spectacular fashion. Even if you want it to succeed you should prepare yourself for failure. These are new technologies being used in new ways. To expect success so quickly is an egregious error. Also, Mars is a fools errand. Mars is a literal dead end. Even if it is discovered that life once existed there it doesn't the change the fact that life no longer exists there and that life cannot exist there, and most certainly not human life. To be honest, I also want these Mars missions to be successful. But for the same reason *_you_* do. I am sick and tired of hearing the naive and ignorant masses cry for missions to Mars. Once they actually get there, *_IF_* they actually get there, they will die soon thereafter, from any number of a plethora of ways Mars has to kill. And it will finally become apparent how feeble all of this talk about Mars always has been. And once the goal of Mars colonization is finally exposed as the nonsense it is, the loud nonsense that you have been regurgitating will be suddenly silenced. But, let us humor you for a moment. What does colonization of Mars look like in your mind? Happy scientists plying their trade on the surface of Mars? Possibly in "biodomes" with glass walls and ceilings? Maybe buried under a mound of dirt? Scientists coming and going, day and night, collecting and examining soil samples? Then reporting the found data back to Earth? Is that what Mars colonization looks like in your mind? Cute, really. But no. Colonization of Mars is literal Hell. You see, humans cannot survive on Mars. In order for humans to survive on Mars we will have to evolve. And should humans evolve to survive on Mars, well, they won't be human anymore, they will be something else. But what does evolution for humans on Mars look like? Well, it is ugly. Here on Earth the actions necessary for forced evolution would be entirely unlawful and would land anyone committing such acts in prison under *_very_* lengthy sentences. First off, we would have to send endless missions, not just supplies, but people, and mostly people. Since they will be dying very rapidly, there really isn't much need for supplies. Then you have the matter of actually evolving our species. The moment a child reaches puberty they are forced to have sex until the female is impregnated, this goes for both males and females. They have to have intercourse with each other whether they want to or not. On Earth we call that rape. On Mars it will be simply called survival. After all, the average life expectancy of a human on Mars will drop to probably around 20 Earth years or so. The goal of this is produce a child, or children, that can live longer than the rest. And any children that do not have the necessary traits must be euthanized, because if they are bred they reintroduce undesirable traits. On Earth we call that murder. On Mars will be called just simply survival. And these processes will have to be repeated over and over and over until the desired result is reached. And in the end, the result will not be what you expect, they won't be human. Standing a human from Earth and what used to be a human, but now on Mars side by side, there will be similarities, but the differences will be visually apparent. And there will be non-apparent differences as well. They will be as similar to us as we are to apes. You know, 5 fingers, 5 toes, a mouth, eyes, a nose, reproductive organs and such. But the shapes and sizes of everything will be different. Thing is, we evolved to live on this planet specifically. We cannot survive anywhere else. We are specialized to this environment and no other. Earth is our home, our *_ONLY_* home, and that is how it shall remain. Hey, welcome to reality.

Big IF al around
bendedmiracle Pirms Mēneša
If humanity is not able to recreate earth like conditions this will happen. If they find solutions for everything except gravity. It might work. It is a matter of scale really. I agree though, it might never evolve past a few scientists staying for a few months.

@Alvian Choiri Apriliansyah you think? i would start building a big "solarship" as soon as we can same time we start building landingpads on mars.... itz way more chill if you have a big transport ship .... i think spaceship(elon) is in realety just the taxi off our planet .... if you want to build the road to space you may think of it like a highway so for me space ship is just the road leading on it but i think too ... maybe in a later phase .... i am just curiouse what ideas exept onielzylinders are roaming human minds
