Hey, calm down everybody. He isn’t even the record holder anymore. There was a Google employee who jumped down from even a bit higher than him. And for everyone who thinks that he’s such a great guy, I have to disappoint you again. He once supported Hungarys president, who is acting just like a dictator and Baumgartner also said some racist things. Just like the boss of Red Bull.

Sebastian Nolte
Sebastian Nolte Pirms 11 Stundām
He jumped from 39 km and so reached only 1356 km/h. There are airplanes in even denser air that are twice as fast that don't need heat shields. If a meteorite would drop from 39 km nothing would happen. Actually they burn up as meteors at about 80 km. However, even if a meteorite would drop from 120 km it would not become a meteor. Because it would not be so fast then. But they fly through space with ten thousands of km/h. The same with spacecrafts: Objects in orbit fly around the earth with 28000 km/h, so slam into the atmosphere with nearly that speed when they come back. The Apollo spacecraft from the moon entered the atmosphere with even nearly 40000 km/h. If a spacecraft would use rockets to slow down to let's say 3000 km/h before it comes down, it would not need heat shields.

Yes, the amount of curvature seen in the footage is not how it would actually look at a height of 24 miles (39 km) from where he jumped from his helium balloon, but regardless, the earth is still a spherical planet, right Fernando?

Sailor Man
Sailor Man Pirms 18 Stundām
@Bagel Music It seems you haven't even realised how grossly distorted the appearance of the earth is in the footage? Perhaps you're not aware either, that GoPro cameras use wide-angle (fisheye) lenses, which is why the earth appears to have so much curvature in the footage.
Bagel Music
Bagel Music Pirms 22 Stundām
@Sailor Man Why, because there's a curve? Indicating it's spherical shape?
Sailor Man
Sailor Man Pirms 22 Stundām
No, the earth is not flat, but this skydive footage is actually a terrible example to use as proof that the earth is spherical - you know that, right?

@Sailor Man Its just a fish eye lens that bowls the image, that the flat Earthers can't get a grip on. There's always the live stream from the ISS, if the want to see the earth without a fish eye lens but thats fake cgi....lol One of the Swiss Airforce jet fighter rides, to see the earth's curvature videos should help them.

Sailor Man Pirms 22 Stundām
Not that the earth is flat of course, but have you actually not realised what has caused the earth to appear so round and grossly distorted in the footage? In fact, flat earthers would actually be correct to question how much of the earth's curvature we see in this video.

Hey flat earthers 👋👋👋
Sailor Man
Sailor Man Pirms dienas
@Wilks GoPro cameras use wide-angle (fisheye) lenses. This is the reason the earth has so much curvature in the footage. Surely you must have seen too, the ridiculous amount of distortion, causing the earth to even appear concave in many parts of the footage? From his jump height of 24 miles (39 km) the horizon would still be virtually a straight line, with only a minimal amount of visible curvature, and nothing like what is seen in the footage. And with regards to where he's jumped from, that would be a stationary helium balloon in the earth's upper atmosphere - he was nowhere near 'space' which doesn't officially start until the point known as the Karman line at a height of 62 miles (100 km). The use of the word 'space' is incorrect and should never have been used by the video uploader in the video title and description.

Not that the earth is flat of course Chris, but have you actually not realised what has caused the earth to appear so round and grossly distorted in the footage? Sailor Man
Sailor Man Pirms dienas
From the height of 24 miles where he jumped from, he was above 95% of the gases in the atmosphere. It's these gases that cause the sky to appear blue, so as their concentration gets less and less with height, the sky gets less and less blue, eventually turning to complete blackness.

It was parachuted shortly after him. 'Space capsule'? His jump wasn't actually from space. He's jumped from a stationary helium balloon at a height of 24 miles (39 km) which put him in the stratosphere.

Does anyone recall that a couple of years after this, a guy did a jump more than a mile higher? Not even a daredevil, really, just an unspeakably wealthy techgeek with unshakable faith in the engineering needed to haul him up there and drop him down safely. Of course, his jump was a self-financed adventure, not a bloated add for a caffeine and sugar water drink. No dramatic documentary with interviews, multiple Go-Pro angles, and intense soundtrack. No deep, soul-searching battle with mortality from our courageous hero. He just paid some geniuses to figure out the particulars and calmly did it. No wonder this Red Bull add still shows on LVlocal as the world record.
