A conversation with Elon Musk about Starship

Skatījumi 2,8 milj.

After Elon Musk gave his presentation about the progress of SpaceX's Starship program, I had the opportunity to pick his brain just a little. In general I wanted to let him talk a lot and see where his mind went, but luckily for us aerospace enthusiasts, I got a little juicy extra bit of conversation at the end.

After all the interviews I have seen of him, he is much happier talking to people interested in the topic than to other billionaires.

It's really nice seeing Elon go into depth about this stuff. Usally for most interviews he tries to simplify things so it's easier for the interviewer to comprehend and understand what he's saying. You could tell he was delighted to share his thoughts and ideas without having to hold back.

now try to think in galactic terms ... what has focused on this planet ... apparently insignificant, compared to the galaxy, but in fact it is currently a cosmic nuclear mine ... with bacteriological weapons, viruses and chemical weapons ... with drug powders that if it starts to levitate due to excess radon ... hundreds of active reactors take flight into space, viruses, bacteria and chemical weapons ditto nuclear weapons will be triggered by high concentrations of radon and explode into space ... with the amount of drugs we drug half the galaxy ... can you hear us now? colonize mars and leave a nuclear time mine unattended?

I notice I focus more on the emotive aspect of things and how Elon responded to the topics - his eagerness, his interest and how his energy turned up speaking on the things that clearly light him up and he's problem solved for God knows how long. Now to rewatch this again to focus on the content. Thanks for this.

funny how SN8's flight lasted six minutes and FORTY TWO seconds, with raptor engine NUMBER 42 the starship. It seemed like the SN8 was trying to reach 42 above everything else. Even if it had to crash and explode to reach it. Ironic isn't it?

Questioning the constraint of the speed of light might be a way of eventually achieving interstellar travel without generation ships or taking a significant amount of time. Aerospikes would be ideal for situations where the height constraint of a rocket with such a long nozzle is not problematic, like in a space plane, so hope someone tries that. A spaceplane could in theory be ideal for landing on a moon colony with a runway; the thrust of the aircraft landing backwards could be all that would be needed for altitude control; and it would be no different in timing than landing a Falcon 9.

YOUR CREDIBILITY HAS BEEN DECIMATED. SN9 WAS DESTROYED BY CALCULATION ERRORS YOU SHOULD HAVE COMPLETELY SOLVED. LEARNING FROM SN8. NO WAY YOU ARE GONNA BUILD TRUST FOR A MANNED MISSION. THE FUTURE IS VERY UNSURE.

@Ichangednametoamorecringyone The future will not grant us delusional successes. They were so sure they just could fix the sn8's disaster like that. They didn't learn anything. The stake is too high for endless risktaking. These are our limitations. We should be humble. Success is deceptive.
Ichangednametoamorecringyone
Do you know how inventions and discoveries come to be? It takes time and it can take multiple attempts. They learned a lot from SN8 and found new data from SN9. They will get there and the future is sure. Humanity will get to mars.
